Lately I’ve been working a lot, hence my absence from my blog. I apologise for that.
Because of all work and no play, I’ve been feeling tired all the time, exhausted, moody and sleepy. And this has affected my diet habits. I have lost the key to every diet. I lost the one thing that I tell my clients they should always have…
…I stopped organising and planning my meals.
I stopped taking my nuts, cereal bars, fruits and healthy snacks with me. As a result I got hungry during the day and didn’t have anything to eat. The easiest thing to do was to pull over ever 2-3 hours at a kiosk or at a mini market and feed on what they had to offer…. Croissants, soft drinks, breadsticks, chocolate bars and chips were the main things I found. And I ate them all… *Shock* Yes even a nutritionist can lose her way… But I decided that this had to stop.
At the time being I can’t change my work routine, so I have to make some other changes in order to feel better. I decided to change 3 things:
A) My water consumption. No more soft drinks. I even downloaded an application in order to remind me to drink water!
B) My meal planning. I will from now on have healthy snacks with me in my purse and in my car.
And C) My food quality. This is where I’ve decided to make major changes. I will drastically cut down on sugar, minimize preservatives and reduce salt.
Hope all of this helps as I am really lacking energy. After the first few days that I’ve been doing this I can say that I am feeling more energetic. But I still can’t quite deal with my sweet cravings!!!!
No need to worry, though! I found a solution to that. 🙂 Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have a sweet treat every day without harming your health or your waistline? Well this is one of the recipes I tried and there are many more to come. Enjoy!
Note: This recipe is lactose free, gluten free and vegan.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups walnuts
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup pitted dates
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Instructions
- Add walnuts and salt to a blender or food processor. Mix until the walnuts are finely ground.
- Add the dates, vanilla, and cocoa powder to the blender. Mix well until everything is combined. With the blender still running, add a couple drops of water at a time to make the mixture stick together.
- Using a spatula, transfer the mixture into a bowl. Using your hands, form 15 small round balls, rolling in your palm. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- Feel free to roll in cocoa powder or shredded coconut. You could even roll them in crushed peanuts, crushed pumpkin seeds, or mini chocolate chips.
